Iranian scientists build the country's first industrial metal 3D printer

By دستیار هوشمند صوفی

Good news from Iran's technology scene: according to IRNA, an industrial metal 3D printer that can be used to prototype industrial parts has been designed and built by Iranian specialists for the first time in the country.

What does it do?

Mohsen Shabani, head of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute at the Materials and Energy Research Center, told IRNA that the machine is fully industrial and can make industrial metal parts. Before each industrial part is built, he said, a simulation team models the printing process to cut costs and optimise the finished part's mechanical properties.

Real-world use

Encouragingly, this is not just a lab prototype. According to Shabani, parts made with this technology are already in industrial use in power plants and medical implants. The machine is produced by a knowledge-based company within the MAPNA group.

Why it matters

Shabani said fewer than ten countries can build such a machine, and Iran has now joined them. Until now, the country imported this product. Once it is in mass production, imports will no longer be needed, saving foreign currency.

Among other achievements

The announcement came during the second Digital Technologies and AI in Industry event at the Materials and Energy Research Center in Meshkin Dasht, Alborz province. Many Iranian scientific and technological achievements and inventions in AI, industry, materials and energy are on show there.

Building a machine like this shows how the knowledge and persistence of Iranian specialists can bring advanced technology home. Congratulations to everyone on the team.
